Farhan Masud Aneek
A living human being.
I end up doing a lot of things throughout my day. Some other days, I enjoy spending my day staring at a blank wall.
Most of my work revolves around building things for the web. The main tool in my toolkit is Django. In recent times, I seem to have grown a strong liking towards Astro.js for its simplicity for building frontends. This particular site is using Astro under the hood.
I love writing Python scripts that help bridge the gap between different workflows. I use them for both production and building solutions for my own life.
Servers (production and home) are where I can't help keeping my excitement under safe blood pressure levels. Architecting a system to balance performance efficiency, cost and maintenance overhead keeps putting dark circles around my eyes that I seem to enjoy ironically.
I enjoy working on very personal pet projects. Most often they end up unfinished. Currently, I'm working on a couple of projects which seem closer to completion than my previous ones.
I see AI as a helpful companion. Making AI work on tasks of a junior developer with the comprehension of a senior has forced me to become a better project manager. It also eases up the process of working on my pet projects. Quick brainstorming sessions with AI are something I have grown to appreciate. I'm not comfortable with how much energy it wastes. Currently, some of my tinkering time goes into trying to make small AI models run efficiently and effectively on my outdated hardware.
I love using open source software and tools for my work and personal life. Except for Google services and Cloudflare, most of my work is done using open source software. I explore open source software, tooling and solutions quite regularly. I share some of the findings on my blog.
I use Ubuntu as the operating system on my personal and work computers. I've been using Ubuntu since 2009 alongside Windows. In 2019, I started using Ubuntu as the only operating system for my computers. I do try out and experiment with different Linux distributions but I end up coming back to Ubuntu. The only thing I do not like about Ubuntu that comes pre-installed is snap.
I love books. Reading them as well as typesetting, printing and binding them. I read mostly fiction. Other than that, I read books that help with my professional work. I am currently re-reading the books that I grew up reading, as well as the ones I wish that I had read back then.
Professionally, I am the managing partner of Design Commune. “Managing Partner” is only an official title that comes with registering a partnership company in Bangladesh. I develop websites & web apps for our clients and manage the servers. The stack consists mainly of Django, Wagtail, Astro, Tailwind, GSAP & Alpine. Additionally, I do some administrative work.
I am also working with CloudScript as the primary person responsible for developing the only government approved e-prescribing system in Tanzania. I work on finalizing the business logic, designing the system, designing the UI, writing code, whipping AI to write code for me, setting up bare metals, deploying the software, testing, debugging, training other developers, training the staff, writing documentation, meeting with stakeholders and maybe a few other things.
If you need any professional help with building anything on the web, feel free to contact or hire me.
I live a happy life with my wife. I enjoy cutting and preparing vegetables that she cooks. In recent times, my most important mission in life has become making the best “milk tea” in the world.
